Follow up service
The road to full recovery from critical illness even after discharge from the hospital can be challenging. Many survivors of critical illness may face a long and difficult recovery period due to a variety of problems including nightmares, anxiety, musculoskeletal weakness.
The critical care follow up service group are Leads from various units that provide and coordinate the delivery of high-quality post discharge care to patients who have recovered and have been discharged from critical care units.
These expert services may include support for physical and psychological complications from being in critical care furthermore, provide resources to help ex-patients optimally settle into the community and workplace. Research has shown that a significant number of persons discharged from critical care benefit tremendously from the Follow up clinic service.
The aims of the Follow up service subgroup are:

The Follow up service group meets to discuss on service provision for Follow up teams in various units under the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Adult Critical Care Operational Delivery Network

The group will act as an initial reference point and source of advisory expertise to collaboratively inform NHS England initiatives and programme, furthermore providing advice and insight around delivery of care by Follow up teams

The group will share expertise, knowledge, insight and discuss best practices to enable standards to be effectively developed and implemented in critical care areas. This will help ensure that Critical care Follow up services provided in the Network are reflective of the needs and view of the people who use them.

The group will discuss educational opportunities to members to support them in their ongoing professional development

The group will represent the views of Follow up teams working in Adult Critical Care areas in units under the Network
